Learning a foreign language shouldn’t be limited to the walls of a classroom – adding a few simple exercises to your daily routine will really boost your learning. Watching TV shows or movies in French is a great way to learn faster, but learning French with music would be my favorite way.
French songs are super easy to access and you can listen to them wherever and whenever you want. If just like me, you love to sing all the time, I strongly recommend you to learn some French songs by heart. Even though you don’t understand the lyrics, it’s a great exercise to improve your pronunciation.
You may not believe me, but I probably know by heart more than a hundred songs in English, and not the easiest ones! I’ve took many hours to try to learn several songs of Eminem, Macklemore or Black Eyed Peas… Let me tell you a great thing: when you are not a native English speaker and you are able to rap the whole song Lose Yourself of Eminem, it’s just the greatest feeling ever.
And one more thing, not only it can help you sound like a native French speaker, but it can also boost your memory. If you already started to learn French, you will probably recognize vocabulary, and these words will stay forever in your mind because you’ve remembered them thanks to a song you enjoy listening to. Once again, it’s all about the neuronal connections your brain creates because of memorable emotions.
Before giving you the list, know that I tried to mix as much as possible the types of song so that everyone can find some he likes. You’ll see, I’m a pretty open-minded person, especially when it comes to music. Enjoy!
